Happy May Day friends - I hope that you had a chance to celebrate some of the protections that you enjoy in the world of employment - and spend some time reflecting and taking action for those who don't enjoy the same fortunes. I spend this May Day in training for my new job - and am happy to report that I am once again, part of a union! Woo hoo!
A friend posted a link today - to a campaign that Amnesty International is running. It's called, Trial By Timeline. You should check it out, if you have a facebook profile. The program will inspect your profile on Facebook - so the things you have chosen to post about yourself or things friends have posted and send you to trial for it. It will combine, simply through these inconspicuous things, a list of the charges and punishments that you would face around the world - and the countries that would convict you of them. Some of the crimes I am guilty of include things like, being female. The list of crimes I have committed simply based on my profile is quite large - and the punishments range from imprisonment to death. If I were one of those people who post more about my life (like my marital status, faith beliefs, political beliefs etc) I am sure the list would be even more terrifying.
Anyway - the reason I am telling you this - is because while I find it scary to think about - it also reminds me about the responsibilities I feel I share globally with those who are also trying to live a life that seeks to build peace - and are persecuted for it.
Have a look at the link - and let me know what you think. I'd love to hear your thoughts and reflections.
Peace to you~
